A Few Words From Ed

I can't believe it is March already. I am so excited to announce the Emergency Lifesaver Course we are offering in May. Please see below for more details on this class. This is NOT a CTS course. We are hosting this program conducted by XSA International,LLC.

PODCAST - I recently had an opportunity to be a guest on Brett Grayson's "TacticalPay Radio" Pod Cast. It was a lot of fun discussing CTS and the current situation in the gun industry. If you have any desire to listen to it this is the link.  Podcast

We continue to struggle like everyone else for ammunition. We no longer have enough 9mm ammo to allow rentals. Until further notice, we are unable to rent 9mm handguns and machine guns as the 9mm ammo is again for class use only.
Please accept our apologies on our necessity to manage and in some cases restrict the sale of ammo in order to protect our class enrollment. We continue to maintain enough ammo for our classes. We appreciate it when students who have ammo bring it to classes. This will allow us to continue to have ammo in classes for those who need it. Guns are starting to become more available. I hope you understand.
Also note that Center Target has never increased the price of any item that we did not have to pay more for. We will not be part of any price gouging. We at CTS believe we (the shooting community) will be better off as a result. On a personal note I believe you the consumers are astute enough to know when some of our competition is trying to capitalize on the situation and we hope when this is all over you remember that we never participated in any price gouging or offered anything but the highest level of training possible.
Lately a few of you have asked us to eliminate the retakes or offered to pay for a retake in an effort to get into a class. We will not do either of those. Yes, if our intent was to take your money and train as many students as possible, we would do like others in our area. However, that is not our intent. We want you to repeat, we want you to learn, we want you trained to the highest level. That is why in 16 plus years we have taught over 28,000 of you. Let's not fix it if it isn't broken! Thank you for your continued support and patronage.
A few words about Basic Pistol II vs. repeating Basic Pistol.
We created Basic Pistol II at the request of our former Lead Instructor Ken Cramer. Ken accurately saw a need for a venue that provided more trigger time to the basic student that would allow their skills to more rapidly improve.
The result of his thinking was the development of Basic Pistol II which is designed to be almost entirely conducted on the range. That's why the prerequisite of Basic Pistol is important.
If you completed Basic Pistol but want more trigger time to refine your shooting skills with an instructor present, the Basic Pistol II class will allow you to grow leaps and bounds, more than if you merely repeated Basic Pistol. Of course when you complete Basic Pistol II you can repeat that course as often as you like! Now you are really learning and improving your skills.
Until ammo becomes available our Ladies Day special will be shoot free with a $12 purchase from our store.

Notes from Peggy:

Reminder we are closed on Easter Sunday.

Just a reminder if you've paid for a class in the past, were unable to attend and gave us the required 48 hour notice, you just need to call to get into the same class if it's scheduled.

If the website shows a class is full, sometimes it has 1 or 2 spaces still available. We short the website because there is a lag time in getting those registrations and we do not want to overbook the class. You can call the range and check if the class is indeed full. Another occurrence, especially in the winter when people come down with a cold or flu, we find last minute cancellations happen. So if you see a class date that works for you, put it on your schedule and give us a call 1 or 2 days prior to the class. You may find that there is a last minute opening.

A reminder that retakes need to call in to the range to sign up. The website does NOT recognize a retake.
Our Current Hours Are:

Wednesday 11am-5pm

AMMO What Ammo?

To say that I am concerned about the availability of ammunition and the ever increasing wholesale prices we are having to pay to get it, would be a tremendous understatement.

Last week we were offered 9mm ball ammo 50 rd boxes for $36.00 per box wholesale. We turned it down. After Sandy Hook in 2013 we saw a ton of price gouging by dealers across the country. This year it is different. Current wholesale prices are have increased over 500% from what they were in 2013. I am sorry to say that today is the new reality of manufacturers getting charged more for primers, bullets, cases, etc and passing on the prices to us who are passing it on to customers at a lower margin than we’ve made in 16 years.

We are committed to keeping our classes going and managing our ammo supplies accordingly. We are seeing a slight improvement in availability but not near enough to meet the demand. Hang on to your hats as I believe it will be a bumpy road for quite some time.

Think Gift Certificates for any occasion!
or Just Because!

Gift list accessories cards

If you are having difficulty finding that perfect gift we have created a list of gift ideas based on the firearm type that your recipient may own.

For example, we have compiled a list of items that would be appropriate to a pistol owner, a rifle owner, etc...

Come in today and get a Gift Idea List Card. You and your special person will be glad you did.
Consignment Corner
Welcome to the consignment corner. Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.  Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale. Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

Special Note: Please call and make an appointment if you have more than two guns for consignment.
Ask The Staff About Extras
We have developed such a great reputation with respect to our consignment firearms that many of you come in and ask about our stock every week.
 If you're interested, don't wait!
Do You Own A Gun You Just Don't Use, And You'd Like To Sell It?
Firearms are flying out of our consignment case. People are interested in our gently used inventory. So this is a great time to let us help you sell your firearm. Shot guns and handguns both are in high demand.

The third and fifth Thursday of each month, we shoot at 75 feet. The first Thursday of each month, we have a fun shoot. On even-numbered months, we shoot a Centerfire pistol at 50 feet using the 75 foot Target. Makes for some really interesting competition. For this competition we shoot 30 rounds of rimfire and 30 rounds of centerfire at 75 ft. We then add both scores together for a possible 600 point match. So please come join us for some great competition and camaraderie. We love to have new shooters join our group and hope to see you there.

NRA Range Safety Officer Course - April 18

NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
NRA Range Safety Officers should be experienced shooters, involved in many aspects of target shooting, training, and range supervision. The NRA encourages active shooters to learn more and become responsible for the safety of fellow shooters through this program.
  1. Introduction to the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course
  2. The Role of the NRA Range Safety Officer and Range Standard Operating Procedures
  3. Range Inspection and Range Rules

Gunsmith Corner

Well here were are the holidays behind us, tax season upon us and spring waiting just around the corner. I want to thank you all for the fact that I remain very busy which is a true blessing in these difficult times. I will continue to work as fast as I can without taking away from quality, and being grateful for your patience. Now is a good time of year to get your weapons cleaned and in good repair for the upcoming shooting seasons. I look forward to being your gunsmith of choice.
Due to the rising costs of parts and consumables Ed and I have decided and we have for the first time in sixteen years our gunsmith rates will be modestly increased. We both feel the increase is needed and will keep us competitive in the market place and sustain the high quality of gunsmithing services you have all been accustomed to.

The new price structure will be available at all the points of sale and will take effect of March 15, 2021. Sights purchased in house will still be installed for free. This will not include fitting of special adapter plates related to RMR’s. I continue to search for reliable sources for parts, but as with all things firearms related there are some availability hurdles we must jump. Shipping remains a bit unpredictable so please allow for some leeway if your project needs parts.
I again want to thank everyone for your trust, patronage, and patience. I look forward to a wonderful year of doing business with all of you.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

Movement While Shooting Can Save Your Life.....

Not wanting to ignore some of the more advanced students, I want to offer a training tip this month that is more advanced than we have previously covered. So along with that lead-in comes this warning. If you are not an advanced student or have not worked from the holster much, please do these drills with an unloaded firearm. Practicing these skill sets with a loaded firearm should only be done at a safe range location and under the supervision of an experienced coach/observer.
Many students are aware of smoothness in the draw stroke. They try to achieve this smoothness by practicing in front of the mirror or by receiving coaching from a knowledgeable friend. The shortfall in many of these practice routines is that many students fail to incorporate movement off the line of attack. Movement off the line of attack simultaneously as you complete the draw stroke is critical.
The initial drill should be limited to practicing the draw stroke while moving to the left and then practice the same thing with movement to the right. We have to constantly strive for balance in all our techniques. We can only achieve balance by working both sides of every skill set. Don't favor one side or another because it feels more comfortable than the other. Remember as you complete these drills they must be complete skill sets i.e. they must include the proper presentation of the firearm, the shot execution (if hot range), the return to high ready with 360 scan, and then a reluctant re-holstering.
When you feel you have achieved the proper combination of smoothness and speed and if appropriate, shooting accuracy, add an additional target. Continue this process until you are addressing 4 separate targets in one draw and movement skill set. When this technique starts to feel right, add equipment malfunctions to the drill. Practice reloads and malfunction corrections as part of the skill set. These corrections should be accomplished in every conceivable way i.e. two handed, dominate hand or support hand only. Of course, movement during the entire skill set is required.
To refine and finish these skill sets be sure and incorporate movement in all directions. When you think you have the left and right movements down, add some target aggression forward movement and rear movement to your drills. Of course, indexing, muzzle direction, and the 360 scan are critical.

If you have any questions on this subject don't hesitate to call us. Anyone wanting to practice drawing in our facility must ask permission of a staff member. Our staff will make their decision based on range use at the time of your request and your skill level. Start out with the basics and add difficulty only after you have mastered the skill set.
